Economic Development Strategy for County Meath

I welcome the launch of this economic strategy

While it’s true to say that “Local authorities cant great jobs” the strategy launched today will help to create the environment for job creation.

With the setting up of Local Enterprise Offices under the control of MCC, we are now positioned as the lead employment agency for business support.

It’s important from the strategy that MCC wants to promote and support an enterprise culture that is SUSTAINABLE, and promotes best practice.

Vision.

We need to accelerate the economic transformation, revitalisation and sustainable development of this County. The strategy provides us with clear, concise, innovative and evidence-based measures towards this goal.

I welcome the target of 7500 indigenous jobs and the aim to reverse the downward trend in ratio of self employed indigenous income per capita in Meath versus national ratios.

I also welcome the aims regarding FDI and agency assisted irish owned enterprises.

This strategy provides a roadmap for economic growth and opportunity.

I welcome the emphasis on greater cooperation between this Council, State Agencies, enterprise agencies and local communities

Finally this strategy, along with the County development plan, The heritage and tourism strategies represent a strong , positive corporate response to improve the County. It clearly shows that Meath is open for business.
